The first essay assigned to write for my English class was on the topic of "moments". What precious, few seconds of time happened to remain ingrained in your memory? It could be anything from monumental to mundane. Well, I chose the time when my friends and I were driving home from LA. The friend in the driver seat drove so fast, roller coasters would have been sparked with envy. I should have been worried, but I was having such a great time, I didn't care.
I decided to write about being in the car, because as of right now, I am on the I-5 heading towards San Diego. Typing this out on my smartphone with two thumbs have been a trial, but who hasn't written their best friend a long, ardent-filled text message?
As soon as school finished, I freshened up at home a bit, hopped into Brandie's Kia Soul and we commenced our fifty-plus mile excursion south to SD. Today was the date of SoMo's Wide Awake Tour at the House of Blues. An artist with a latino heritage, smooth-silky voice, lyrics that would make girls fall to their feet, and parents banning their kid from ever meeting him in the first place.
One hour and forty minutes have passed and I've witnessed multiple beautiful facets of the one sunset foregrounded by an ocean, a highway, trees and a lagoon. (I didn't even know there were lagoons around here.) But every heaven is accompanied with hell, which I'm sitting right smack in the middle of. Apparently, there was an accident on some random street named El Camino Road and the bystanders have to suffer. (I do hope the drivers are okay, though.)
Another thing I've learned on this ride, let me tell you, is that being sixteen-years-old is not nearly as young, vibrant, and comfortable as it seems. My back aches, my legs are sore and my ears are popping. Pretty soon, I'm going to grow up as the grandma requiring the motorized wheelchairs when she goes to Wal-Mart.I'm not sure how much longer the ride is going to be, if we're going to make it for the concert, or if I'm going to even going to make it out of the car considering my bad bones and joints, but this ride was scenic, musical (we played SoMo the whole way through,) and the start of what's about to be a memorable night. I shall finish this off with a profound quote from a critically-acclaimed movie starring Ice Cube: "ARE WE THERE YET?"
