About 7 billion people start off the same way. Same limbs, same brain, same heart. We need food, water, shelter and arguably clothing. But depending on your circumstances, environment and other surrounding factors, your perception of how we live becomes molded into a singular teeny tiny box. "This is how you'll use forks and spoons to eat." "This is how you will dress." "This is the way you'll study." "This is how you will get a job." "This is how you'll have fun." "This is how you'll live life."
We're so accustomed to what's being taught, we never really question it. The saying goes, "C'est la vie." Excuse me? I don't think so. I don't believe in 'that is life'. I don't see how if something were to make you unhappy, you'd simply accept it and carry on. Why should life be something you have to endure and not thrive in? If you enjoy your job in a cubicle typing numbers into a computer, then by all means go for it! But if you're not, then what the hell are you doing?
You, my friend, are not required to be shoved into society's uptight square views. When I was younger, my mom always told me laugh, sit, and talk a certain way. I loved to laugh, but not in a controlled robotic manner. I liked to let loose and just let the laughter flow through however it pleased. After that realization, it has helped me identify who I am and even encouraged my mom to laugh out loud, sometimes heinously so, but it just makes me laugh even more. Laughing is supposed to be cathartic, not purposely attractive. So if you've got that down, you've checked off part one of living.
Sometimes, we feel compelled to accomplish things that aren't meant for us. It could be ingrained in your mind that you must have a respectable career and a traditional family to be successfully happy, but you don't. If painting for a living is what you love, embrace it. If skating is what makes you feel alive, skate to your heart's desire. Society will not grant you instructions on how to be happy, it sets rules and restrictions. So skate outside the cramped box and "Do what you want to!"

This is so great!! I especially love your last line, it made me laugh (skate outside the cramped box). And the example that you used about laughing really helped me to understand your whole message, love it.
ReplyDeleteI really loved this! Especially how you talked about how to laugh, I really feel like people need to let loose sometimes and just laugh naturally. Keep on writing! :)
