Presentation Perturbation

Got a big presentation coming up? Well, so. do. we. It's for our English class and we separately must do a speech about almost anything for one solid minute. Talking to a small of group of people, I can do no problem. It's such a breeze, I could probably crack them all up within five minutes. But the moment I have to physically stand up and force the whole room to focus solely on me... that's when the rocks begin to fall and an avalanche proceeds in my mind.

Given my fair experience of speaking in public, it seems to always make my palms sweaty enough to save California from its drought. The moment when the announcer, teacher, or whoever it may be calls you up, I turn to Antarctican ice and mentally compel myself to push out the first word I can muster.

The final result of my presentations always end up in two ways: me leaving the floor confident and the audience impressed, or me rushing back to my hole and hoping everyone forgets the awkward, flustered and monotone speech I had just given.

What I've noticed now is that it simply takes preparation. Research, research, research. While writing this out, I took some time to research what turns a presentation into a sensation!

Practice: If you're still not able to control the nerves no matter how often you present, practicing and rehearsing what you will be saying will help a ton. Running it through let's you clear out the kinks and shows you what you could improve, just like test-running a car! No manufacturer would ever sell a car without making sure it is able to drive!

Passion: The more you're interested in your topic, the more fun it is for you to talk about! Which is also more fun for your classmates to follow along to. When you're talking about the thing you care about, you eyes light up and you become much more animated and confident, which is a guaranteed A!
